The new EU Toy safety directive 2009/48/EC was implemented on July 21, 2011. The directive was published in June 2009, while the current directive, 88/378/EEC, will be repealed (except for the chemical aspects, which will be effective starting July 2013).
Below you can find a short description of the key information required for this directive:
- Detailed description of design and manufacturing
- List of components and materials (including BOM, BOS)
- Safety data sheets
- Declaration of Conformity
- Test reports
- Safety assessments and other documentation, etc.
With consumer concerns increasing regarding toy safety, many customers have begun requesting required information, especially the list of components including the Bill of Materials. Based on these requests, Leo has successfully developed a new program that automatically draws production data from our ERP and SDS systems. The data can be exported into a Leo designed format, which can provide details including the weight of the chemical composition. It has the potential to reduce the amount of keying errors and increase the speed of the reports. Since the actual weight of material used in a product is determined by our warehouse transaction record, the Bill of Materials can only be generated just before shipment.
At Leo, we continue to ensure that raw materials being used in our products do not exceed the international limitation on banned or restricted chemicals or SVHCs. Should you have any questions regarding product safety, please do not hesitate to contact our sales representatives for further information.
