With the vision of being a zero-waste factory, we are dedicated to promoting green culture. Our Green Harmony® program implemented a number of environmental initiatives over the years. We are proud that our green efforts have been recognized and awarded with the Low-Carbon Office Operation Program (LOOP) Platinum Label, which is the highest rank. The Labeling Award Ceremony was held in Hong Kong on January 17, 2013. Mr. CM Yeung, Director, represented our Group and received this recognition.
WWF-Hong Kong organizes the LOOP Labeling Scheme each year. In 2010, we received our Gold Label recognition. This year, our headquarters received a performance score of 86 out of 100, thereby earning the highest rank: Platinum Label. LOOP is a WWF initiative with verification from third parties. This program was established to enable companies to become part of the solution for climate change. By participating in LOOP, Leo remains as a forward-looking leader in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions generated from office operations via the adoption of managerial and technological best practices, staff behavioral adaptation, and a labeling scheme.
Our headquarters has performed well in the areas of Overall Electricity Consumption, Overseas Business Travel, Local Business Travel, Staff Commuting and Fresh Water & Sewage. Our carbon emissions were reduced by 5.2% compared with the last LOOP reporting year, which is more than a 20% reduction compared with the base year.
There are also a number of carbon reduction measures at the headquarters, such as: motion sensors, adoption of natural light, LED lights, vacuum hot water bottle to replace electrical water heaters, recycle bins, and practices for switching off lights/computer monitors. These measures can be small, but they make a significant impact for environmental conservation.
The Platinum Label demonstrates that Leo has not only a well-established environmental management system for the factories, but also the offices. Leo has a strong commitment from top management, environmental representatives from each department, and the participation of each Leonian. We expect that all Leonians will strive for continuous improvement towards Green Harmony® and for sustainable development!
In addition to the participation of LOOP, we are also a pearl member of the WWF Corporate Membership Program. In fact, Leo has been a supporter of WWF-Hong Kong since 2008. With this Platinum Label recognition, we will redouble our efforts to conserve our environment and make a commitment to be part of the solution for positive climate change for years to come.
