Leo has always been an advocate for promoting sustainability, corporate social responsibility and Green Harmony. One of the most recent recognitions is the CSR Index. In this year’s assessment, we were gratified to receive 4.9 points out of a total possible score of 5 points. Our score also compares favorably against the average of 4.6 points.
Since 2009 we have been participating in the HKQAA-HSBC CSR Advocate Index Evaluation Scheme. This is an annual voluntary benchmarking project launched by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) and HSBC to encourage local businesses
to improve their corporate social responsibility performance. This business-led index evaluates seven core subjects under the application of the ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility. The Hong Kong CSR Advocate Index scores rose slightly this year, demonstrating an improvement in the overall performance of CSR.
We believe that our commitment to product quality and safety, sustainable development as well as our people-oriented policies were the major factors leading to these satisfactory results. To maintain a healthy, educational and active cultural atmosphere at Leo and to contribute to the overall quality of life for Leonians and their families, we have undertaken a number of specific initiatives, such as: establishing the Astros Greenfield Garden facility which accommodates up to 9,000 people; holding various sports and entertainment activities throughout the year, including an annual Christmas carnival, the Leo Cup, the Leo Star Awards Ceremony, the Astros Charity Walkathon, and the Leo Cultural Festival; improving dining facilities, accommodations, and medical and transportation services; and cultivating and enriching our workers through training courses, lectures, skills programs, meetings and external exhibitions.
Publicly, we are active and keen supporters of our communities. We have assisted with the construction and support of schools, universities and teaching facilities; we support charitable organizations that care for the elderly and for those who are in need; we sponsor education and environmental protection programs, and we assist charitable groups promoting the harmonious development of society as a whole.
In addition, we have benefited from participation in the HKQAA-HSBC CSR Advocate Index in terms of enhancing our overall performance of organizational governance, human rights, labor practices, fair operating practices, consumer issues and community involvement and development. Productivity and operational efficiency have been enhanced through the execution of CSR-related policies and measures. This recognition is just to reassure our continuous efforts over the past years on securing and implementing our Code of Conduct and sustainability philosophy in the long run.
Looking forward, we will be planning for the release of our Sustainable Development Report in 2012 so corporate stakeholders can get a better understanding of our initiatives and efforts on sustainability, corporate social responsibility, Green Harmony, etc.
