On December 19, 2011, 20 more substances were added to the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Candidate List. The Candidate List now contains 73 substances in total. Compared with the last update to the SVHC list six months ago, the number of newly added substances has more than doubled. Strong growth of the Candidate List will be one of the primary goals for ECHA in 2012 as part of its “2012 work program” (published in October 2011).
Obligations for EU Article Producers and Importers
There are two major obligations that producers and importers must comply with.
(1) Notification when a substance and its overall quantity in all articles is more than one tonne per producer and importer per year
(2) The notification of SVHC in articles when SVHC concentration is above 0.1% by weight
The notification deadline for the twenty substances added to the Candidate List on December 19, 2011 is June 19, 2012.
