Ipex, which takes place in London every four years, is the world's largest English speaking event for print, publishing and media and is a source of information for everyone in the print and communications industries. It brings together some of the world’s leaders of the international print supply chain, who discuss, debate and share their insights and solutions surrounding the evolving role and power of print in this new digital age.
Our Group Managing Director, Mr. Johnny Fung, shared his views on sustainability at a panel discussion “
Sustainability – So What? An Audience with Publishers and Printers” for the World Print Summit at Ipex on March 27, 2014.
Panel members included:
Moderator: Neil Everett, Partner, Carnstone - PRELIMS Publishing Group
Speakers:
• Alison Kennedy, Production and Distribution Director, Egmont UK
• Meredith Walsh, Senior Purchasing Controller, Penguin Random House
• Martin McCall, Head of Sales, Digital Content, CPI UK
• Johnny Fung, Group Managing Director, Leo Paper Group
The main focus of the discussion was the huge impact printing has on sustainability, particularly on the environment through paper sourcing, print production and publishing supply chain operations. This panel was brought together to “Experience the Journey of Sustainability in the printing industry from the printer and publisher perspectives and collaboration along the supply chain”.
What drives the need for sustainability? Mr. Fung shared how Leo combines a material policy, efficient and modern machinery, a proactive waste policy and the implementation of Lean, all to contribute to a holistic sustainability culture. This culture is supported by our Management Team, who believe and subscribe to it completely. Mr. Fung emphasized that
“Sustainability is an investment. If we don't do it, the environmental and social costs will be great, and eventually there will be a business cost. Consumers are demanding sustainable products and if the supply chain does not comply, ultimately business will suffer.”
Being an eco-factory with a quality culture and commitment to continuous improvement, we are glad to have had this opportunity to share our sustainability vision, initiatives, green manufacturing, product integrity and social responsibility with other industry players. Looking forward, we are also striving to collaborate with others to help foster sustainability in the supply chain, the industry and in society.
